The Before Living Room
A recent design consult - becomes a perfect room makeover that I turned around and styled - in person -for the homeowner!
I consulted with this homeowner about changing up their space from a distance via email and phone calls to start things off.
I suggested paint colors for each area, flooring, adding molding and trim, plus what pieces of furniture to repurpose or not...Also I suggested a basic floor plan...

Then, once the new floors were in place, the great colors were painted in each room and the spaces were down to basics...I helped them order new pieces to bring the spaces to life along with pieces they already had. The new pieces were a mix of things from IKEA - such as the sectional sofa and club chairs to the long console table, coffee table and lamps from Pottery Barn.
Once those pieces arrived - I traveled to their location out of stage to style their rooms in person myself. I love when I get the chance to do that in person as part of a consult.
I integrated pieces and accessories that they already had along with new props that I mixed in from Target, Lowes and even Michaels.
My favorite part of styling their makeover in person was repurposing the great, vintage family photos they had. It truly gave the room a layer of personality that you just cannot buy. All part of those all-important layers of life each room deserves.
The Before Dining Area
I love this view of the before space looking from dining room towards the living room. The before and after are so different. It is amazing how a new color on the wall (Richmond Gray from Benjamin Moore), some simple drapes from Target, a pendant light from Lowes and some easy touches (like the faux greens on the dining table) can add life to the new space.
The After Dining Area
As you all know, lighting plays a big part in most of my design projects - so lighting became a very important factor in this space. Being in the room at night - with the lights on - made the room very inviting and comfortable - a safe haven of sorts. In daytime, it took on a much happier and stylish look.

I repurposed vintage oil paintings in a grouping over an antique side table they had. I like that their vintage dining table and chairs truly added a layer of warmth to this area. Then, to update the look I introduced matching table lamps from Target to blend in nicely with the pendant. A good mix of old and new.

In the end, it's amazing what a new paint color, some lighting, some simple furniture pieces and small details can do for any environment.
A great example of good home design changing lives. I love that.
