Tabletop Creative Zone

I'm all about inspiring kids and teens to be creative.  Many of them spend a great deal of time watching television or playing video games, but I like the idea of having them put pen to paper - using the creative side of their young minds for awhile.  It can be for the little kids - but it can also be good for the teens in the family too.  Just giving them a chance to use their imaginations is a good thing.

What about creating an instant creative zone?  It is something you can easily put on your breakfast table or your dining table - a gathering of creative supplies that can inspire.  So they can doodle or sketch while having their bowl of cereal or after dinner you can have some drawing time as a family.  I like the idea of a family art show once week.  Mom and Dad too!

Take a tray you may already have...

Gather some Mason jars or other containers of your choice...

Then, just gather some fun drawing tools - crayons, pencils, markers, etc.

Markers are fun for the bigger kids (maybe not so much for the little ones) but there are plenty of options for various age groups...

I like giving each person a sketchbook to work in - something that can just hang out on the table when the mood strikes them to get creative...

Watercolor paints are fun too with a gathering of various brushes...

For the older members of the family - some nice bound sketchbooks are nice.  I use sketchbooks for my To Do Lists and I always have them around.

Bring together some other paper options and you are set....

It does not have to be complicated or over the top.  Something as simple as this "tabletop creative zone" can do the trick...

Give it a try... I know that if the parents take some time to do some creative work at this zone - the others in the family will be more likely to want to give it a try too...

Have fun.  It's also a great way to spend some time together as a family...
