Earlier this week, I ran my Designer Dad At Home With...Diane Keaton feature. It's filled with insights into what home means to Diane and her family. It is also filled with images I shot of her home collection sold at Bed Bath and Beyond called: K by Keaton. I featured her tabletop collections called "The Eat Collection" and her bedding collections called "The Dream Collection" on location at a makeover sight that I added barn-inspired accents to.
The video sampler below shows some highlights from my makeover shoot to inspire you.
The idea:
I wanted to take a simple concept of a table - made from reclaimed barn wood and make it something you could use anywhere. Just pick it up and move to where you like - sort of idea.
With an idea in mind, I sketched out a concept for my carpenter friend to build with wood from a fallen barn down the road. I wanted it to be movable and be useable in various ways: as a work island/desk, a portable dining table and as a coffee table. Basic concept : a couple sawhorse legs and a rustic, removable tabletop.
For the makeover redesign - the rooms I was shooting in were truly getting just a few new things: the table in various forms and some fantastic seating.
The seating was a fun way for me to illustrate how you can have rustic moods or themes in your home - but you can modernize it with some simple touches like seating.
With that in mind, I turned to Overstock.com for some industrial metal seating in various forms (stools and metal chairs).
Then, I pushed the rustic mood a bit more with some faux barn wood wallpaper from York WallCoverings to add some visual style and, then final touches, with Diane's home collection in the various spaces.

| These red metal chairs from Overstock.com add a pop of color - but I also showcase them in silver as well. Change is good in design - and can be very easy to do. |
In this video, you will see how I simply take a kitchen nook and give it a breakfast bar (or think about Thanksgiving in the kitchen when you need another island for food prep).
Then, I can also easily turn it into a family dinner space by lowering the height of the island and surrounding it with the metal chairs from Overstock.com.
From there, I can take the same table and turn it into a work surface in a home office by raising it up again and simply stacking up the metal chairs until their next use.
I even show how you can move the table to a room of your choice for an impromptu dinner setting anywhere you wish.
Lastly, I take the same table and turn the sawhorse legs on their sides for an instant coffee table in a master bedroom retreat setting...
In the end, I threw in the barn images from my Stephen Saint-Onge Canvas Collection to finish off the barn-inspired theme.
A bit of Americana and rustic style, yet with a modern living approach.
Here is the video sampler to inspire you - the makeover feature will run later on. Enjoy and be creative!
A special thanks to Bed Bath and Beyond, Artistic Photo Canvas, York Wallcoverings and Overstock.com for being a part of my makeover
and their products that are featured in these photographs and video.
