Homework Station...

  • A place for the kids to do homework and get everything organized is the thought for the day....

  • There are so many great options for desks, counters and tables out there...The bottom line is that it is all about giving the kids a place to turn to everyday to focus in on their homework and school projects...

  • These were a few options that captured my eye...something for every style...

  • It's important for them to keep the area organized but also it's good to allow them to express their own style there too...A surfing theme, a rock-n-roll theme or just a place to gather a collage of favorite pictures is fine too...

  • Provide some good options for lighting the area as well as good options for seating...I heard something recently that said that posture and how they sit doing homework is a big part of concentration and paying attention to detail...

  • If you are buying new pieces to create a homework station - think about buying pieces that can grow with them in the years ahead...

  • As kids grow up - their rooms become a place for them to start expressing their developing personal style - so let them have a say on the overall theme but provide them with a solid foundation for the space with good pieces...

Winter Soup...

  • My grandmother used to make great soups...which is why they probably are one of my favorite meals to have...

  • Over the years, I've taken her simple recipe for chicken soup and modified it...Quick and easy to make...

  • Add some water to a large pot, throw in uncut pieces of chicken breast or chicken strips and add a container of organic chicken broth...Allow to simmer for awhile...

  • Once the meat is cooked (should start to fall part), remove the pieces of chicken on to a plate to allow to cool...

  • Chop up some potatoes (two or three large ones) and throw them into the simmering broth.  You can also add baby carrots and celery if you have them around (I like the soup either way)...Once the potatoes are cooked - add a half box or half bag of bow tie pasta and let the whole thing simmer...

  • In the end, after the chicken has cooled a little - chop up or break up the meat and return it all to the simmering soup to combine everything...Add some salt and pepper to flavor to your liking...

  • This takes no time at all - and is probably one of my favorite family meals when you need to do something quick and easy...
