Creative Kitchen Thought...

  • If you look at the images of these kitchens you realize that there are no upper cabinets...one has open shelving instead...the other has framed artwork and the last one makes room for more windows...

  • As you think about renovating your own kitchens - something to consider is not having upper cabinets which can save on money in your overall design budget...You could do open shelving instead for your everyday dishes (helps keep you organized) but you can also be efficient with your use of space overall...

  • You could create a larger pantry room (I blogged about pantry layouts earlier in the month) - to store all the extra stuff...food, cookware, supplies, etc.

  • You might find that by omitting the upper cabinets in your soon-to-be renovated kitchen plan - it might free you up to do some fun things - such as the open shelving idea, adding more windows to let in natural light or enjoy a great view or even make a statement with an open wall covered in stone or tile...

  • In a radio interview I just did to promote my book, I talked about how many people face the challenge of too much stuff in their homes and when it comes time to renovate they have to figure out ways or places to put all that stuff.  However, by downsizing and de-cluttering - you might find that you don't need extra space or too much storage after all...

  • Just a thought to put in the back of your mind as you think about a possible new look for your kitchen space...
